How To Get Free Government Money You Never Pay Back

Pell Grant Eligibility
The federal Pell Grant is an aid program that allows low-income students to pay for college. Its eligibility requirements and maximum amount can change each year, so it’s important to know exactly what you need to do to qualify.
The FAFSA is the federal application used to determine whether or not you qualify for a Pell Grant.
The maximum award amount under the Pell Grant program for the 2017-2018 school year is $5,920, and most students receive much less than this. But there are ways to increase your chances of qualifying for a Pell Grant.
For instance, if you’re a student with a deceased parent, you may qualify for additional funds. This is true only if your parent was less than 24 years old and enrolled in school at least part-time.
Pell Grants are not available to students who have a parent who is in the military, or to students who have been subject to an involuntary civil commitment.

Repayment of Pell Grants
If you receive a Pell Grant, you may be able to apply for a repayment plan. Most colleges and states offer these programs to students who have demonstrated financial need. Students can also request a repayment plan from their school’s financial aid office.
Once a repayment plan is approved, students have 45 days to pay back the money. Students who receive Pell Grants should make repayment plans as soon as possible. Students must also remember to pay back any taxes they owe on the funds they receive.
Colleges may decide to pay their Pell Grant recipients directly or credit the funds to the student’s account. In either case, recipients must be notified in writing. They must also pay the Pell Grants to students twice per academic year. If the student changes his or her enrollment status, he or she will be required to repay the difference.
The maximum Pell Grant amount is $6,495, depending on financial need, length of college attendance, and whether the student is a full-time or part-time student. Additionally, students cannot receive Pell Grants from more than one college.
